Class Reunion

I had a great time at the class reunion. I think that those that attended would agree. I have some pictures from the races, the banquet at the school and the hotel. Here is an updated booklet. I will send a hard copy to anyone I don't have an email for.

It doesn't seem the like this should be our 20th Class Reunion. Of course, I don't feel like I have changed a bit. I do know better, though. I can still remember our last days in high school and when that final bell rang the screams and tearsthat flowed through the hallways.
Since graduation from college, I have remained in Eau Claire. I am married to Jeff and we will celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary in August. We also have three children: Aubrey-13, Josh-11 and Meghan-8. They usually keep us running in two different directions.
We enjoy going up north to our camper in Lake Holcombe and boating. Our kids are just learning to water ski. It's so peaceful up north and it's a time for us to relax somewhat. The kids are able to fish as well and the girls and I are learning to put worms on our own lines as the boys won't help us. I am still employed by Nelson Cheese Factory in Eau Claire. The flexible scheduling is a plus and I am able to take as much time off in the summer to be home with the kids. I am very blessed that I can do that. So I look forward to summer break just as much as they do. I am learning fast how life is so short. We should all live each day like it was our last.

For those that knew that I wanted to be able to travel and get out in the world, I am proud to say that I have more than accomplished that through the years thanks to the opportunities that came my way and through my current job! After graduation, I was accepted into the Job Corps/BRAC program out of St. Paul, MN. 6 months later, I was a Clerk Typist and Secretary working for Amtrak out of New York City but moved back to WI after a year and a half. I spent 4 years at Menards as a Graphic Designer/Shift Supervisor, moved down to Jacksonville, FL and got a job as a Graphic Designer at a newspaper, followed by a publishing company soon after, and have have worked for that same publishing company for the last 12 years in various roles -- went from Graphic Designer to Assistant Production Manager, followed by Operations
Manager, Client Service Manager/Program Costing Coordinator and ending up with my current title of Print Production Manager, where I purchase all the press time and paper for all of our travel-related newspaper inserts seen nationwide, internationally and in the Oprah Magazine. I also coordinate all the scheduling of the programs and am responsible for the proofing and editing of all of the client materials that appear in the printed inserts. It’s possible that any one of you have seen one of our inserts in your newspaper at any given time. While working in Florida, I also lived in Georgia off and on, which is also where my daughter, Brianna, was born. She just turned 11 and she’s been every bit the tomboy! She likes all the outdoor activities and has been active in Tang Soo Do and Karate until recently. I sincerely regret not buying stock in Band-Aid when she was born! I took a job transfer out here to Tucson two years ago and just bought my first house in April of this year.

DIANE (BROMMER) MIKELSON
Hi everyone!! Since graduating from Alma’s Class of 1987, not much has really changed for me – and that’s just how I like it! :-) Brad and I will celebrate our 17th anniversary this fall and we are very content and happy to be living right here. We moved into our new house 3 yrs. ago and are about 6 miles outside of Nelson now. We bought land from Brad’s uncle and we love our location. I am, at the present time, a stay at home mom. I love the freedom to change my chedule, most days, on a moments notice. I enjoy volunteering at school and church, scrap booking and photography, helping our elderly grandmas on a daily basis with anything they need; I do some babysitting for family and friends and I just recently took the job of
treasurer at our church. So, I do keep busy. My dad passed away last summer and I was able to be with him as much as I needed to be. That was so important to me. I feel lucky to be able to be home, for now. Brad is putting in his 15th year at Countryside Cooperative in Durand as their Agronomy Supervisor. He likes his job but is not allowed much free time to the things he really enjoys – fishing and turkey hunting. Our boys are getting old enough to join their dad on these “manly” outings and they all like the time together. Our boys are sure growing up fast. Ryan is 7 yrs. old and just finished 1st grade at “old Alma High” and he really likes school. Ryan is involved in Boy Scouts, t-ball and had a part in our church musical. He loves being busy but enjoys having a nice quiet night at home playing video games once in awhile too. Isaac is our busy 3 yr. old. He loves to play trucks, ride his trike and anything outdoors. He will be our hunter, as he enjoys looking for bucks and turkeys in our woods. I think he will be our challenge. :-) Any free time we have together, we enjoy working on our house and yard, watching movies and spending time with our families and friends. Of course, we take in Ryan’s activities and get involved with them as much as we can. Brad and the boys like to spend a day fishing now and then, too. Our pets include a goldfish named Bert and a 4 yr. old golden retriever named Oliver. Both pets are Ryan’s and he does a great job taking care of Oliver but I guess I inherited the fish. That’s a mom’s job, right? I think my most satisfying accomplishment since high school would have to be having our kids and trying to raise them in this crazy world we all live in. It’s hard for all of us to instill great values in our kids but it has never been more necessary.
All we can do is try and to hope for the best. :-)

Where has the time gone? I feel 18 except instead of being blonde I'm now gray and somehow gained 100 additional pounds. I have been married to my wife Robyn going on 13 years this December. She is the only one I have ever found that can put up with me. Especially putting up with me working on 3rd shift are entire married life. I also have two sons Brandon
& Logan. We also have a pet dog Bengi. We just moved back to Winona at the end of April. I'm still working at Boelter Industries in Winona. I'm currently the 3rd shift supervisor. Robyn is working at Ashley furniture but trying to find a job closer to Winona. My oldest son Brandon is 12 and will be going to Winona Middle School in the fall. He enjoys video games, computers
and is a very easy going spirit. Logan is 9 years old. He will be going to W-K in the fall. He enjoys playing basketball and riding his bike. He is also a big NASCAR fan. Last summer we took the children on a cross country car trip. We drove west out to Wyoming. The family went to
Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore in SD. In Wyoming we saw Devils Tower, Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. On our way back we visited two Mennonite Colonies in Montana. Nothing better than traveling with the family for 3,600 miles in 8 days. Amazingly we all made it back without killing each other (lol).

CARRIE (DAVIS) MAGNUSON
For the past 11 years, I have been living in Amery, WI. My husband Jon and I have two boys, Jordan (8) and Tyler (5). We have a Springer Spaniel named Gilbert. My biggest and most satisfying accomplishment since graduation is my children. Raising my family has been the most satisfying and the most difficult thing I have ever done. I have been a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) for the past 13 years. For the last seven years, I have been
employed at the Marshfield Clinic in Rice Lake. Just like everyone else who has children in school, most of my free time is spent taking the children to activities. Between basketball, swimming lessons, baseball, concerts, etc., it is amazing that I can enjoy anything else. I do manage to get in a few rounds of golf and a little fishing in the summer. In the winter, I am on a bowling league.

KATHY (HETRICK) HANSEN
Since 1997, I've called the San Francisco Bay Area my home. The past year has been a meaningful one. I sold my house, got married in San Diego, and moved to the Oakland hills - where I live with my husband, Rob, and my pooch, Bodhi. My day typically starts with a hike with Bodhi in the redwood forest across the street. I've worked as a graphic designer and art
director for 15 years - traveling to Singapore and Australia in my late twenties to work for international clients and most recently designing educational toys for LeapFrog. I am transitioning into textile design with hopes of having my own line of home/apparel products on the market in a few years. Rob is a landscape architect and professional photographer, and we
spend many hours together working on creative endeavors in our studio and in our garden.
My big passion is spending time outdoors - hiking and backpacking all over California and the Pacific Northwest (the Sierras, Death Valley, Yosemite, and all along the coast from Portland to San Diego.) Other hobbies include gardening, mountain biking, making handmade journals/books, volunteering in my community as a master gardener, home improvement
projects, and traveling. Our next travel adventure will be Japan to visit gardens in Kyoto.
My life's most satisfying moments are those of daily gratitude for my husband Rob - a man I admire and cherish immensely. I marvel at my good fortune for being able to share my life with him. We will be on vacation in Tennessee and Virginia during the week of the reunion. Sorry to miss seeing you, but I hope that we can connect in the future. Send me an email! Since 1987, I have done many things. In 1987, I married Linda (Nelson). June 6th will be our 20th wedding anniversary. I am working at Ashley Furniture as a mechanic in Maintenance. We have 4 great children; Destany, who will be 16 in June; Austin, who will be 12 in June; and there’s Skylar, who is 8; and, last, but not least, Jadi, who will be 4 in July. They all keep us very busy, including the sports they are in. They include basketball, track, cross-country t-ball and boy scouts. We also like to go camping and boating on the weekends at our camper in Wabasha. We also try to go to South Dakota every year for vacation. That is just some of my life over the last 20 years and, of everything I have done, my biggest and best accomplishment is my family.

DANIEL QUARBERG
I will start from graduation. In August 1987, I joined the US Army and went through all of the basic and advanced training to become a turbine engine mechanic. I spent almost seven years in the army repairing the jet engines on Army helicopters. I spent about 4.5 years at Ft. Bragg, NC from which my unit and I were deployed to Saudi Arabia where we were based for operations
Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I was there for a little more than six months. In 1992, I was to be reassigned to Hondurus for a year and a half. I did not make it that far when I was detoured to Ft. Bliss, TX until April 1994 when I got released from the Army. I went back to North Carolina and worked as an auto technician until December 1995 when I moved back to Alma.
After moving back I worked a couple of short term jobs until I went to work at Ashley in Arcadia as a forklift repair technician for six years. On August 5, 2000, I married Marissa Anderson from Grand Rapids, MN, and byAugust 19, 2000, I was a newlywed working fulltime at Ashley and going to fulltime tech school for aviation maintenance. September 14, 2001, I was still a full time student, working full time and our daughter Jasmine Arianna was born. Made
for a busy time. August 8, 2003, I was finishing a couple of final classes for my AAS in Aviation Maintenance and working full time when our son Joseph Paul was born. Now I was really busy.
In December 2003, we moved to Deer Park, WI so that I could try to start a working career in aviation. That did not last too long. I then started working at Amery Ford where I am still employed as a service technician. In April 2007, our proudest moment next to our children being born, was the purchase of our first home in Amery. Missy works in the optical department of the New Richmond Wal-Mart. Our kids are five and three. Free time? What is that?
Any free time that I do have, I like putzing around in my garage or chatting on the ham radio.I got into amateur radio in 1995 and have been somewhat active with the hobby. Missy has been licensed since April 2001 and gets on the air occasionally.

KAREN (SCHNEIDER) AMSRUD
I got married to Dave back in 1990, and we were married for 12 years. In that time, we did a lot of traveling. We lived in Hill City, South Dakota, just miles from Keystone where Mount Rushmore is located. We also lived in a suburb of Denver, Colorado, for a short while until I decided the gunshots I heard in the parking lot were too close for comfort. We vacationed
all over the US, but that was before I started working. We divorced in 2002.
I currently live in Wabasha with my two boys and fiance, Larry. My son, Brandon, is 16 and takes his high school classes online through Houston County's "MCOOL" (Minnesota Center of Online Learning). Wabasha-Kellogg just wasn't the school for him. Jackson is 13 and is ecstatic that June 5th is his last day of being in the 7th grade. Brandon can't get enough of his XBox 360, and Jackson spends a lot of time on the computer and can convince you he kows EVERYTHING
there is to know about them. I've worked at the Southeastern Minnesota Multi-County Housing & Redevelopment Authority or 8 years now. We are a government non-profit agency that helps low-income families with rent or rehab on their existing omes. I started as receptionist, advanced to account technician, and was promoted to Office Coordinator. My job is to
make sure the office runs smoothly and supplies are ordered. I do the computer troubleshooting & networking and all of the accounting duties I had before. Life keeps me busy, so I'm never bored. I love shopping and going to the casino. The world wide web occupies some
of my free time, and I like to try new recipes and take them to work so my co-workers can be my guinea pigs. They really don't mind. I like to go out with friends and check out the local bands at the clubs every now and then, too. Other than that, I don't do too much, but we're all healthy and happy, so we can't complain.

I have been married to Stephanie for 11 years and we have three girls; Megan age 8, Amber age 6, Rachel age 3. Our kids’ activities are what keep Stephanie and I busy. Megan plays basketball, volleyball and piano. Amber loves to dance, socialize and play with her sisters. Rachel loves to play games with her daddy and tease her two older sisters. Our children are our lives.
I am a client development specialist for Lexis/Nexis. I sell internet advertising and website development to lawyers and law firms. I cover the entire state of Minnesota. I have been working with lawyers for 14 years now and I really enjoy it. My biggest accomplishment in my life besides having my three wonderful children is how I have been able to survive

BETTY (WEAVER) GLANDER
This summer, Kevin and I will be married 14 years. We currently live in Pepin. We have a daughter, Laura, who is 9 years old going on 25. We have a cat, Little Girl, and a long-haired miniature daschund, Amy. I am still teaching in Alma. I have finished up my 14th year there. Who would have thought that I would be the next Mrs. Herold, teaching 6th grade and doing the sixth grade campout? Believe me, there is a lot of chaperoning going on... I know what has happened at campouts in the past...
In the summer, we are busy pulling around our fifth wheel camper. We really enjoy spending this time with our family and friends, and making new friends. As you can guess, we also spend a lot of time at the race track. Kevin races a super stock and has been at this for 13 years. Laura enjoys going and cheering on her Dad. When we are not at the race track or camping, we are sitting at the softball field. It would be a sin to live in Pepin and not enjoy softball. This is something that I will have to acquire a love for. Fortunately, Laura also enjoys playing Basketball and Volleyball. Laura also bowls Junior League and I spend a lot of time running her to bowl league and to bowl in tournaments on the weekends. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, taking classes, scrapbooking and stamping. I have also started a new hobby -- bowling. Kevin and I bowl Friday nights on a mixed couples league in Wabasha. I also volunteer as much as I can with evening activities at the Pepin School. During the school year, I also teach aerobics at the fitness center in town and after school for teachers twice a week.
I think one of my most satisfying accomplishments since high school, besides marriage, a child, and my Master's Degree, would be the completion of my first half-marathon this past spring.

JEFF WIECZOREK
Let me think here… After graduation, I went to school for musical instrument electronics repair at Red Wing, which landed me a job in Eau Claire, WI at Morgan Music. I remember going out on “parts runs” and stopping in at the Eau Claire Nelson Cheese Factory where Ann Becker worked at the time. The band, which at the time consisted of fellow Alma mates Jake Goeldner and Fred Lindenau, lived in a house 1 block from Water street, and we played almost every weekend for a 5 or 6 year stretch. My wife to be, Crystal, was living in a house with 4 other girls right next to ours, and as luck would have it (and constant badgering), she married me in 1995.
We bounced around towns for awhile (Stockton, MN, Fountain City, Cochrane) and finally settled on the Alma Bluff. I got a job in Winona at Benchmark Electronics, where I worked my way into the computer department. The band continued to play, and had a pretty good run around 1993 to 1995 opening for Steppenwolf, Head East, Humble Pie, Pat Travers,
Van Zandt, Badfinger, and Loverboy. We ALMOST became the touring band for Fergie Fredrickson (Toto’s singer on the Isolation album), but that’s a woeful story unto itself.
In 1999, I got an IT job at Saint Mary’s University, where I’m presently typing this up on company time. ;-) We had a daughter, Olivia, in 2004, and I’ve been trying to talk Crystal into another one ever since. And, lacking both good judgment and a desire to get a decent night’s sleep, Crystal and I purchased the Alma Hotel in March of this year. I can now burn your food and serve you a beer that is 3⁄4 head if you stop in. Can somebody PLEASE show me how to use a tapper?

WENDY SUE (ZEICHERT) HEDGES
I went in the active duty Army following graduation and left in September 1987 for boot camp in Ft. Dix, New Jersey, where I graduated and stayed for the next nine weeks to finish my advanced training. My first permanent duty station was Ft. Carson Colorado in Colorado Springs where I served proudly through Desert Storm until 1992. I was married to my first husband, Jeff Carpenter, in August of 1988 and, in December of 1989, we welcomed our child, Kayla Alexandrea. We moved to Illinois where we lived in the Chicago area together until 1996, when we divorced. I continued to live with my daughter in Chicago and met my second husband Johnn Hedges there and we married in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in 1997 where my husband is from. Johnn worked for Motorola in the Chicagoland Area, and I held various jobs within the computer and healthcare industries, finally settling with CIGNA Insurance Company in 2000. We continued to live in Chicago until 2005, when Johnn received a job offer in Atlanta, Georgia. My job allowed me to move my office to our Atlanta Branch and we moved to Cumming, Georgia, in October of 2005 in the Georgia Mountains above Atlanta next to
Lake Sidney Lanier. Working from home is a major benefit now which I take advantage of whenever possible. Laptop by the pool is much better than desktop in a highrise! We are still trying for Child number 2 as well, but nature has not cooperated with us on that one yet. I am sure it will happen when I am about to turn 40 and I am ready to quit trying. My daughter, Kayla, was adopted by my second husband in 2005 and is currently ready to start her senior year in high school at North Forsyth High School. She is an artist (which is a talent she did not receive from me) and still makes trips to Chicago to show her art and take part in Arts conferences in the Chicagoland area. She is planning on attending the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. My husband is working for Earthlink on behalf of his company NIIT as an onsite contractor and often assists their India team with installation of offshoring facilities and software installation and implementation for their clients. I am still with CIGNA Insurance working in Norcross, GA, working as a Senior Accounting Associate which should astound those who ever saw my math grades. Yes, Fortune 500 companies trust me to balance
their books now and I almost failed Algebra. I have two kittens as my only pets. Sweetie is a year old Torby (Tortoise Shell Calico and Tabby) fat cat female. Gina Lola Bridgita (Lola) is a Maine Coon kitten who is 6 months old and very cute. We have lots of deer and coyote, etc., on our land in Georgia to make us feel like we have a lot more pets, though. I go to Bingo at the VFW and we enjoy going to movies, bowling, etc. I am a die hard antique freak and will regularly be found way too far away from my house in search of the perfect piece of antique furniture in some obscure portion of Alabama. I love to travel with my family and take at least one trip a year to Las Vegas for Mommy time. I am actually going to be in Vegas servicing my Harrah's Entertainment account for work and taking some time for myself out there May 22nd-
May 27th. I also finally made it to Ireland in 1999, which was spectacular. I think my largest accomplishments since graduation have been my four and a half years with the military, having my daughter Kayla, and my husband putting up with me for the last 11 years. Here is my email, and my home address. I would love to hear from classmates, and we have a guest house on our property so if you are ever heading for Florida by way of Atlanta and need a place to stay overnite, give me a call.
